Moreton Bay man persuades Koala to move off-road, avoiding catastrophe

A motorist on a busy Moreton Bay road has been labelled a “legend” after he stopped traffic to persuade a curious koala out of harm’s way after it took a seat on the tarmac, but it wasn’t interested in moving. SEE THE VIDEO

Koala saved by good Samaritan

A man is being hailed a hero on social media after a video emerged of him persuading a curious koala to crawl off a busy Moreton Bay road.

Traffic on Boundary Road paused briefly around 2.30pm yesterday afternoon, as a young, barefooted man helped shoo a koala, who didn’t look like he wanted to move, off the road.

The video taken by another motorist, Renee Ranapia, who was forced to stop their car, shows the man walking laps around the koala, using his hands and appearing to shoo the koala off the road.

After some persuasion, the koala got the hint and causally crawled off.

The man has been labelled a “legend” in online comments for his efforts to save the koala from a potential catastrophe.

One person commented on the video, “I can still have faith in the human race, thank you for helping.”

Another wrote, “Love it! Great guy for stopping but the koala just looking at him.”

Another wrote, “Need more people who are willing to do this.”
