A father who snuck off from an island motel without paying for half of his two-week stay has been fined in court.

Joshua Francis Kopecki, 32, paid to stay at Boyne Island Motel and Villas for just one week in January last year but never paid for second week after extending his stay.

Caboolture Magistrates Court heard the local man, who had a two-page criminal history, took off while still owing $270 for the accommodation.

The court heard he planned to pay for the visit later but never made any payment.

He pleaded guilty to one count of fraud and was fined $300 and ordered to pay $270 compensation.
