A court north of Brisbane has heard a young Burpengary man say sorry, after he was pulled over and blew almost four times the legal limit and drove without a licence.
Malachi Lee Cassidy, 22, appeared in the Caboolture Magistrates Court on April 28, charged with did drive U.I.L and driving without a licence and pleaded guilty.
The court heard on April 27, 2023, at 1am, police intercepted Cassidy who was driving on Buckley Road.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Shannon Fox said a licence check by police discovered Cassidy’s licence was suspended as of January 25, 2023 for a period of three months.
“Police questioned Cassidy about the status of his licence,” Sgt Fox said.
“He originally believed his licence was current however after further questioning he advised it had been suspended.
“During this conversation police observed the defendant had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong smell of liquor on his breath.”
The court heard Cassidy returned a blood-alcohol level of 0.198 per cent.
Representing himself, Cassidy apologised for his actions and said he’s learnt from his mistake.
Magistrate Kurt Fowler noted it was a high blood-alcohol level reading and that Cassidy had a previous court matter in 2020.
Mr Fowler fined Cassidy $1,000 and disqualified him from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for 18 months.
A conviction was recorded.
