A teenager charged in relation to a deadly car crash on a Bribie Island beach has appeared in court for the first time.

Lynden Joshua Roby was supported by family when he appeared in the Caboolture Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old is facing a charge of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm after an accident on Bribie Island.

Harrison Payne, 18, died after the Toyota HiLux he was a passenger in rolled on Ocean Beach, Woorim, on May 30.

Mr Roby was flown to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, but recovered.

Police said at the time, initial investigations indicated the driver had lost control of the car before the crash.

Mr Roby did not speak as he stood alongside his lawyer in front of Magistrate Andrew Hackett.

The teen was not required to enter a plea at this stage with a brief of evidence requested for six weeks time.

Bail was granted with Mr Roby set to reappear on October 6 for a committal mention.

The crash, and another fatal crash in the area in the past 12 months, led to calls for P-platers to be banned from driving on Queensland beaches.

Since the crash families and the wider Burpengary community have come together to support each other, and pay tribute to the former St Eugene’s College student and power lifter who made a huge impact on those who knew him.

“Gonna miss your face around the gym. Hopefully you can still give me a spot for shoulder on Thursday brother,” friend Harry James Scriggins shared on Facebook.

Harry’s grieving parents, Kylie and Kent, are also setting up a foundation, The Harrison Payne Foundation, to ensure some good comes out of their terrible loss.

They hope it can one day help other families going through the same ordeal.

Kylie said her son was a loving and considerate young man who looked out for his mates.

They have set up a memorial at the Narangba Lookout.

“It’s where they (friends and family) go to remember him and to talk about him. It’s very special,’’ she said.

“There was a mate of his who was going through a rough patch, so Harry would call him three times a day and make sure he got out of bed every morning.

“He was always thinking about others.’’
