Luxury golf estate’s plans under review by council

A controversial application to rezone parts of a luxury golf club estate north of Brisbane is under a ‘detailed review’ after it was opened up to public scrutiny earlier this month.

A CONTROVERSIAL development application to rezone parts of Pacific Harbour Golf Course Estate, Bribie Island is now open for community input and a ‘detailed review’ is underway by the council.

QM Properties under subsidiary name Vercorp submitted a response to Moreton Bay Regional Council’s information request, which triggered the beginning of a 30-business-day public notification period from September 13 to October 28.

The preliminary approval seeks to rezone land for Stage 9 of development, which would allow for medium density dwellings and a small lot precinct.

This would open the estate up to short-term accommodation and building heights of 12m or three storeys.

Residents called a meeting onsite in July to protest against the application, which was well attended.

Spokeswoman Annette Kingston claimed at the time that residents were not informed of plans to expand the estate when purchasing their properties.

A council spokesman said a ‘detailed review’ of the application was now underway.

“Council officers have already received some feedback from the community on the proposal with residents sighting height and traffic as areas of concern,” he said.

“These matters are to be considered as part of the detailed review being undertaken.”

Vercorp operations manager David Young has maintained throughout the process that the original development application included short term accommodation and the same building height restrictions — the new preliminary approval simply seeks to retain those options.
