Images of a starved dog which was removed from its owners north of Brisbane by the RSPCA have been revealed.
The dog, a bull arab cross named Roman, was seen by RSPCA staff emaciated, with bones protruding from his body.
Photos of the dog’s sad condition were tendered in Caboolture Magistrates Court, where owners Lauren, 26, and Christian Sethi, 27, of Caboolture pleaded guilty to one count of failing to treat disease or injury which contributed to the dog’s condition.
According to RSPCA information presented to the court, a veterinarian assessment of Roman attributed him with a body weight score of one where one is emaciated and nine is obese.
It also weighed 21.7kg, some 13kg short of its goal weight, despite the owners saying they fed Roman two cups of dog biscuits twice a day.
According to the RSPCA, the veterinarian estimated Roman would have been in this condition for some months while the Sethis had explained the dog had always been lean.
The dog, which had not been wormed in some time, also tested positive to hookworm.
Once taken in by the RSPCA, the dog was placed on a feeding plan and gained almost 10kg.
Magistrate James Blanch said the pair had entered early pleas of guilty and had no RSPCA history.
The defendants were ordered to each serve 75 hours of community service, and pay $1800 each in costs and were placed on an 18-month animal ownership prohibition order. No convictions recorded.
