A man charged with allegedly sexually assaulting several women and girls under 16 in a food court at a major shopping centre north of Brisbane has been denied bail and ordered to undergo a mental health assessment; after telling a magistrate to ‘f**k off’.

The 32-year-old Kallangur man was allegedly loitering in and around the food court and outside several stores at North Lakes Westfield on May 30, 2022, before approaching several women and girls and inappropriately touching them and himself.

He was charged with one count of sexual assault, indecent treatment of a child under 16, obstructing police, and possessing dangerous drugs.

The man was denied bail and appeared in Pine Rivers Magistrates Court from custody today, June 2, 2022.

The court heard the man withdrew his consent for a mental health assessment before his appearance and denied any legal representation.

He was allegedly found with one gram of cannabis and the court heard he had a seven page criminal history and was homeless.

“I never f***ing do anything bad,” he told the court

“I don’t want to talk to you I just want to f***ing go back to the street…I don’t have a home.

“You took my weed off me…that would have helped.”

Magistrate Melanie Ho ordered a Magistrate Examination Order and told the court he would be taken to hospital and seen by a psychiatrist.

“I’m not talking to a psychiatrist...nah f**k off,” he told the magistrate.

“What evidence do you have that I assaulted someone?

“I don’t remember doing any of that stuff.”

The charges were adjourned for a committal mention for Tuesday June 7, 2022. He is expected to appear in person, in custody.

“It’s too cold in my cell…I’m punching myself to keep warm,” he told the court while barefoot and dressed in a simple T-shirt and shorts.

According to Queensland Police, detectives believe there could be other alleged victims and are appealing for anyone who may have been assaulted or witnessed inappropriate behaviour in the shopping complex and precinct to contact police.
