A Moreton Bay primary school has lodged plans to build two new pools, including a learn to swim pool
Grace Lutheran Primary School has lodged an application to build a new six-lane, 25m pool, a 5m x 10m Learn to Swim Pool, change room, pool equipment area and extensions to existing amenities, at 16-38 Maine Road, Clontarf.
The proposed pools will replace the existing staff carpark that consists of 13 spaces located within the northwestern corner of school.
The 25m pool would include six lanes, a ramp and shade cloth cover.
The extensions to the amenities block are located directly to the east of the 25m pool.
“Facing Maine Road, the new learn to swim pool, pump room and store have been architecturally treated and set behind a landscaped buffer,” the report reads.
“The built form is not visually dominant or overbearing with respect to Dalton Park and the Maine Road streetscape.
“The proposed interface with the Dalton Park will consist of the pools and associated pool area which is to be separated by a compliant pool fence.
“The ‘Learn to Swim’ pool will be shaded by a roofed structure which include manually openable transparent blinds.
“The existing crossover will also be removed and replaced with landscaping, and the kerb and channel reinstated.
“These changes will improve the interface with the street, and pedestrian safety by removing traffic movements across the footpath.”
Staff that would normally park in the staff carpark could be accommodated within the available on-street parking available adjacent to Dalton Park.
The application reads that construction of the pool facilities are for the use of school students only.
