A developer has lodged an application with Moreton Bay Regional Council to build a new health hub, including an indoor swimming pool, at Deception Bay.

The project is proposed to built at 54-66 Old Bay Rd, Deception Bay.

In April last year the council gave the same developer, DL and Associates Pty Ltd, permission to build a child care centre on the southern part of the block.

Residents objected to the development, with many not happy with the loss of hundreds of trees on the site.

The site, on the corner of Old Bay Rd and Thompson St, has since been cleared.

The developer now hopes to add to the project by building a health hub and indoor swimming pool alongside the child care.

In the application, submitted to council February 20, also proposes to include a cafe, ancillary shops and caretaker’s accommodation.

The application states the swim school will benefit the approved child care and nearby schools.

While no lessees have been confirmed the report says the health hub could include a range of services including dental, a doctor surgery and physiotherapy.

“As mentioned within this application, there is a distinct lack of health care facilities and services within the local vicinity; as health care appears to be concentrated along the Deception Bay Road corridor much further to the south of this residential catchment,” the report states.

The application is yet to be decided on by council.
