Punched and dragged: university student’s assault on online attacker

A teenager attacked in a Fortitude Valley nightclub by a furious drunken Burpengary mother lost a fingernail as she was dragged across the ground by her hair, a court has heard.

A Moreton Bay court has heard how nasty online comments about her family drove a mother to attack another woman inside a Fortitude Valley nightclub – punching the victim in the face and dragging her by the hair.

The court heard that at 1.16am on October 17,2020, outside the X Cargo nightclub in Fortitude Valley, Hunt approached an 18-year-old woman then punched her once to the left side of the face.

The court heard Hunt then grabbed the victim by her hair, pulling her to the ground and dragging her a short distance while the victim was on her hands and knees.

The attack was stopped by security.

Police prosecutor Sheree Wild said the victim sustained grazes to her knees, bruising to her face and a fingernail pulled from a finger.

At 10.45am on December 24, 2020, Ms Hunt attended Redcliffe police station and made admissions to the assault.

“The defendant told police she attended a friend‘s 21st birthday party earlier in the evening, where she consumed alcohol and was very intoxicated when she saw the victim outside of the nightclub,” Ms Wild said.

“She (Hunt) said she didn’t remember exactly what occurred but saw red when she saw the victim and was angry about a previous altercation she had with them.

“She (Hunt) said she remembered walking across the road and punching the victim a single time in the face, then grabbing hair and pulling her to the ground by the hair.”

The court heard Hunt failed to appear in court on March 7 and 10, 2021.

Hunt’s lawyer Farah Haddad told the court the victim had made aversive online remarks about Hunt and her family.

He added Hunt is enrolled in the University of Sunshine Coast’s Tertiary Preparation Pathway and wished to work in the medical industry.

Magistrate Ross Woodford convicted and fined Hunt a total of $1,000 for the three charges.
