Kiar Primmer avoids conviction for assault at Home House nightclub

A Geelong hairstylist has been warned to stay out of licensed venues after a series of drunken, violent incidents at city nightclubs and bars.

A Geelong hairdresser with a habit of vicious assaults across nightclubs has avoided a conviction.

Kiar Primmer, an “emerging stylist” at a Belmont hair salon, pleaded guilty to one charge of unlawful assault and another of recklessly cause injury.

In November 2019, Primmer was at Moorabool St’s Home House nightclub when a friend, an unnamed co-accused, began arguing with a woman on the dancefloor.

Primmer and approached the same woman on the smoking balcony when a second fight broke out.

The argument quickly escalated when the co-accused woman grabbed the victim by the hair and pulled her to the ground.

Primmer joined in and was seen grabbing the woman by the hair and pulling her around.

Police said Primmer was seen making “rapid movements with her right hand in the vicinity of (the victim’s) face” but it was not known whether any contact had been made.

The victim suffered cuts to her head and a nail was torn off.

In October 2020, Primmer and another unnamed woman were with a group of people at Cunningham Pier venue Wah Bah when there was a dispute over paying for drinks.

Some of the friends believed Primmer and the co-accused woman were attempting to leave the venue without paying.

Later that night, while someone who was part of the group headed back towards the Geelong CBD, Primmer and the unnamed co-accused walked behind her at a short distance.

Primmer approached the victim and, after a verbal argument, grabbed her by the shoulders and neck to pull her to the ground.

Police submitted Primmer pulled her hair and bit her left breast.

When Magistrate John Bentley flagged he may impose a ban on Primmer that would keep her out of local nightclubs and licensed venues, her lawyer, Mel Cox, said she has “significantly matured”.

Ms Cox submitted she would be open to an order that Primmer see a psychologist or alcohol counsellor to “make sure it’s in the past”.

Mr Bentley said he was concerned Primmer was heading to nightclubs, “getting drunk and not behaving well” but agreed with an alcohol management and counselling program.

“My advice to you, (now) you’ve got a young child and a good career, (is to) stay out of nightclubs. From what I gather, they’re not very safe anyway,” Mr Bentley said.
