Hildon Investments lodges application to build new Moreton Bay childcare centre

Plans have been lodged to build a new childcare centre with massive playgrounds and open space, in one of Brisbane’s suburbs that is set to boom. SEE THE PLANS

Expansion plans have been made to build a large childcare centre to meet the demands of a future satellite city north of Brisbane.

Hildon Investments has lodged an application to construct a 90 place childcare centre at 224 Bellmere Road, Bellmere.

Sesame Lane owner Hilton Misso and partner Don McKenzie are leading the charge to construct the new centre to span over 3500 sqm.

Mr McKenzie said the centre would feature large playgrounds and open areas, as well as a sensory room.

“As a father myself, the more kids are on their iPads, the more space I want for them to be off it,” Mr McKenzie said.

“We are the first learning centre in the area to put this sensory room in.

“To help with behavioural issues, it’s an environment kids can get more connected to and teachers can use.

“We’re focusing on outcomes for children and great facilities for them and the staff.

“There are not these flash new Taj Mahal centres, we’re more about focusing on education.”

The centre would be directly opposite Bellmere State School and within a kilometre of the Woolworths shopping centre currently under construction on the corner of Bellmere Road and River Drive.

This centre is set to comprise a full-line supermarket and a number of retail and speciality stores.

With 30,000 new homes and 70,000 people set to move into the earmarked Caboolture West city over the next 40 years, Mr McKenzie said they were getting in early to meet the demands to come from this booming growth corridor.

“We’re going to be the first cab off the rank, Hilton likes to get in early,” Mr McKenzie said.

“He was one of the first in North Lakes, he's got six centres in North Lakes now.

“We’re keen to support the new families going in that Bellmere and Caboolture West area and next to the state school.

“Our most northern centre is Morayfield.

“This makes sense to move another layer up to Caboolture.”

The opening hours of the new Sesame Land centre would be 6.30am-6.30pm, Monday-Friday, with a total of 28 carparks.

Sesame Lane falls under the Think 2 Be group which owns 14 childcare centres and other commercial assets.

Sesame Lane only operates in Moreton Bay.

“Whilst our centres are doing well, helped by recognition from awards, we are hearing interesting stories of other centres with very low occupancy,” Mr McKenzie said.

“Capitalism is never perfect; you get some areas of over capacity and some under capacity.

“There's a lot of capacity in Moreton Bay.

“As Hilton’s a long term player, we like to differentiate ourselves.”
