The Year 12 student said juggling training and school commitments was no easy task.

“I have to look at what is coming up and plan with teachers about what I’m going to miss,” Powell said.

“We get time during Joeys camps to study as well.”

He made history last season as the youngest player to debut for the club’s A-League side at 16 years and 361 days old.

He went on to play in the nation’s top competition five more times.

“From playing in front of a hundred or so people at Logan Metro Sports Complex to playing in front of 10,000 plus people at Suncorp was definitely a big challenge for me,” Powell said.

Brisbane Roar will play Central Coast Mariners at Dolphin Stadium, at Redcliffe, tonight, for the round of 16.

It is not yet known if Powell will get a call up for the team.

He said he hoped to get selected more often this year, especially for the games scheduled to be played in his backyard at Dolphin Stadium.

“There are a lot of new players in the side, a lot of experienced players to learn from,” Powell said.

Powell has also been nominated for a Local Sports Stars Individual award.

The FFA Cup game will kick off at 7.30pm at Dolphin Stadium on Wednesday August 28.
