Friends of a young mum who died from gunshot wounds on Brisbane’s northside last month have rallied around to ensure her two young children have adequate care.

Deception Bay mother Keira-Jade Marshall, 29, died in the early hours of January 28 when she succumbed to alleged gunshot injuries to the chest while at a Grant Rd address in Morayfield.

Her untimely death stirred long-time friend Jessica Chapman to set up a GoFundMe page to secure a future for Keira’s children, Rylee (10), and Kyron (5).

Within five days of launching the campaign, more than $1100 was raised.

In a heartfelt online tribute, Ms Chapman told readers the “unexpected” tragedy came “completely out of left field”, leaving friends and family to “scramble to pick up the pieces”.

“Keira Marshall unexpectedly and tragically got her life taken from her, and no one who had the privilege of knowing her is ever going to be the same,” Ms Chapman wrote.

“We are creating this GoFundMe page to help Keira’s family pay for any and all expenses that are going to arise in the wake of this tragic incident.

“Any little bit is going to be greatly appreciated, and we are aiming to give the family a little bit of a cushion so they can have their time to grieve without being forced back to work when they aren’t ready.”

News of the incident spread quickly through northside communities with the Burpengary Tavern also joining the fundraising effort and asking people to help the bereft family.

“Tragically, we have lost a member of The Burpo Family,” the tavern said online.

“Keira sadly leaves behind two beautiful children who need our support. Any little bit helps … every dollar is going to help these beautiful babies.”

Another friend, Sarah Jane Sutton, remembered her friend as fun loving.

“I miss our shopping days and our laughs and our funny stupid accents that we did,” she said online.

Police said the incident happened just after midnight at a Grant Rd address with neighbours reporting waking to hear a loud disturbance inside the residential complex and the sound of a gun being fired.

Detective Inspector David Harbison said at the time, Ms Marshall died after succumbing to her injuries despite paramedics’ best attempts at CPR and first aid.

Last week, police charged Ryan Johnson, 18, of Morayfield, in relation to the alleged murder.

He appeared via video link in Caboolture Magistrates Court on February 7, charged with one count each of murder, unlawful possession of firearm used to commit indictable offence, possession of dangerous drugs, unlawful possession of motor vehicle, possession of category M weapon (knuckle dusters), possession of explosives (ammunition), and possession of suspected stolen property.

He was remanded in custody and appeared for an initial mention at Caboolture Magistrates Court on February 7.

He remains in custody and is due back in court next month.
