A meth addicted father of two faced a court north of Brisbane where he pleaded guilty to using drugs to self-medicate his anxiety.
Kilcoy man Ethan John Tones, 31, pleaded guilty to drug possession charges, while already on a period of probation, at Caboolture Magistrates Court on Wednesday April 13, 2022.
Tones was charged with possessing dangerous drugs, possessing anything used in the commission of a crime, and possessing utensils or pipes at Kilcoy late last year.
He was sentenced to another probation period, narrowly escaping jail time, for his drug charges.
Police executed a search warrant at Tones’ home at Kilcoy on December 8, 2021.
The court heard police found chopped cannabis, a set of scales, and a glass pipe.
At the time of the search warrant Tones was already serving a 12 month probation for previous drug charges, involving meth, the court heard.
The court heard Tones lives in Kilcoy with his partner and two children.
Tones finished school to a Year 10 level and has previously worked as a plumber and rigger.
He is currently employed as a factory worker.
The court heard in September 2021 he was placed on a probation period for 12 months and was struggling with a methamphetamine addiction.
According to his lawyer, he hasn’t touched meth in six months.
However, Tones has now turned to cannabis to self-medicate his anxiety – the court heard.
Tones was sentenced to another probation period of 12 months, and a conviction was recorded.
