A security guard copped a punch to the face at a popular northside pub after he allegedly called a drunken patron a “little c***”, the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court heard today.
According to the police prosecutor, 27-year-old Jordan Daniel McGrath, was drinking with friends at the Eatons Hill Hotel when he became too intoxicated and was asked to leave.
The court heard McGrath was told to exit the premises several times before he “struck the (security guard) with a closed fist in the jaw then ran from the building, through the exit and into the carpark”.
It is there that several stationed police officers noticed McGrath and began to chase him, calling out for him to stop.
McGrath was tackled to the ground, where he struggled against the police until he was eventually restrained and arrested.
On the walk back to the police car, McGrath tried again to take a swipe at the security guard, who had since caught up with him.
McGrath “swung his head to strike the security guard again” but failed to make contact.
McGrath’s defence lawyer told the court the fight kicked off when the security guard had called his client “a little c***”.

“That’s what aggravated him at the time,” the lawyer said.
“Though he accepts that is no excuse.”
McGrath pleaded guilty today to two charges of common assault in a public place while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and obstructing a police officer at a licensed premises while adversely affected.
The court heard the heavy machinery operator and former chef regretted his behaviour.
He was sentenced to 75 hours of unpaid community service and the conviction was not recorded.
