A Pine Rivers father-of-two was shocked to learn he would be spending the weekend in police custody after he was allegedly busted with a large amount of drugs at Strathpine on Friday.
Police allege that Peter Raymond Lucas was found in possession of 9.54 grams of methamphetamines during a search of his person.
He was charged with one count of possessing Schedule 1 dangerous drugs of a quantity exceeding Schedule 3, an offence which carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.
Lucas appeared at the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on the same day as his arrest and was advised not to proceed with a bail application, as he had no legal representative and a significant history of failing to appear at prior court hearings.
The man told the court he’d missed his hearings due to his ill children, one of whom had cancer.
Magistrate Melanie Ho told Lucas he’d have a better chance of bail if he waited until Monday when a representative of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service could assist him in showing cause.
“I know you’re desperate to get out, but it’s not in your best interest to talk to me now,” Ms Ho said.

Lucas will stay at the Pine Rivers watch house until Monday, March 1, when he will reappear for his next court date.
The case is expected to be handed up to the Brisbane District Court.
