A grandfather was punched in the face by a stranger as she stood drunkenly outside his family’s home, demanding to meet his newborn grandchild.

Redcliffe Magistrates Court heard that on November 15, 2022, around 11.20pm, the grandfather was watching television at a Kippa-Ring home when he was disturbed by the sound of a woman shouting at his son-in-law outside after arriving on an e-scooter.

The woman, Crystal Gayle Kropp, 36 was shouting, swearing and arguing with the man‘s son-in law, a new father, whose baby was inside the home.

Police prosecutor Sgt Bambrick said Kropp did not know the grandfather, his son-in-law or an UberEats driver who was also at the home and received a spray from Kropp, who accused them of being involved with drugs.

“When the occupants of the home tried to get Kropp to quieten down for the sake of the newborn child, Kropp walked to the front steps of the house and demanded to see the child,” Sgt Bambrick said.

“The victim (the grandfather) locked the front door and told Kropp she wasn’t getting into the house and that she needed to leave.

“Kropp then told the victim he can’t tell her what to do and has punched him in the eye.

“The victim then pushed Kropp off the porch and she returned to her e-scooter, parked on the footpath outside the house and continued to her unit down the street.

“As the defendant has driven off, she’s yelled out that she will get bikies to f--k them up.”

The court heard Kropp dropped her bank card on the porch and when police arrived, Kropp’s mobile phone was found when it rang in the garden.

Police then went to Kropp’s unit where she admitted to drinking three quarters of a bottle of vodka.

Police arrested Kropp at 12.14am on November 16 and was incoherent when speaking to police.

Kropp gave a blood alcohol reading of .253 per cent and hyperventilated before police could take her to watchouse and instead was taken to hospital, where she complained of a sore hand as a result of the punch.

Kropp’s lawyer Paul Metcalf said Kropp has been making rehabilitation progress through the Court Link program and recommended she could be handed a probation sentence.

“She’s identified any issues that contributed to these situations,” Mr Metcalf said.

“She’s indicated that she’s willing to continue on this part of rehabilitation and hasn’t drank since.

“Any term of custody will cut her progress short.”

Kropp pleaded guilty in court on April 5, to common assault in public place while adversely affected by intoxicating substance.

Magistrate Mark Bucknall asked Mr Metcalf why he had instructions that Kropp couldn’t perform a community service order due to nerve damage in her leg, when the court link report listed that Kropp had enjoyed time at a gym and doing craft and beach activities.

“I’m sure there’s community service programs that can be done without the use of her legs,” Mr Bucknall said.

“If she can participate in the gym, why can’t she participate in community service?

“She’s able to go up to the patio and assault this person.”

Before handing down Kropp’s sentence, Magistrate Mark Bucknall said her behaviour was atrocious.

The court heard Kropp had a history of assault sentences since 2017.

“You can’t carry on like this,” Mr Bucknall said.

“How do you think the occupants would’ve felt?”

Kropp, who pleaded guilty, was sentenced to nine months imprisonment with immediate parole and ordered to perform 40 hours of unpaid community service.
