TWO small dogs were brutally mauled in their own backyard after two larger dogs jumped the fence.

Moreton Bay Regional Council is investigating the incident which took place at Newport on June 23.

Shane Newcombe and Ethan Tyler, the owners of the dogs, said that Obi and Zoe were attacked after two large dogs jumped the side fence into the yard.

“We think that one was a shepherd of some sort and the other a mastiff, both wearing pink collars,” Mr Newcombe said.

“Both were chased off out of the house and ran down the street and attacked another little dog, it was okay which is lucky.”

Both dogs were badly attacked with Obi suffering the more extensive injuries.

Obi required surgery to fix the internal injuries and is still in the ICU at the vet hospital.

Zoe has been released from hospital with a few stitches and staples in her legs.

The owners are “heartbroken” and reminded all pet owners to ensure their yards were secure.

“We never imagined two larger dogs being able to jump the fence and make their way into our yard, let alone chasing our dogs into our house and mauling them,” Mr Newcombe said.

A council spokeswoman said the investigation was ongoing.

The suburb with the highest rate of attacks was Caboolture with 28.

Closely behind, Kallangur had 24 reported attacks across the six month period.
