Construction has started on a $6 million SEQ parkland project at Riverbank.

Moreton Bay Regional Council and developer Peet Limited will invest $6 million opening a massive parkland, complete with picnic barbecues, on a scenic bend of the Caboolture River.

Local council members and Peet Limited representatives met this week for an official sod turning event at the new Riverbank Parkland.

The Riverbank Parkland will be 25.2 hectares, spanning 1.5 kilometres across the Caboolture River.

The meticulously designed amenity will include walking and cycling tracks with river access, a shaded adventure playground, a basketball half court, hopscotch, a scooter track, BBQ and picnic facilities, and an oval with football posts.

Phase one will be completed in early 2023 while phase two of construction will conclude in the second half of 2024.

The park has been in the planning stages with the Moreton Bay Council for more than four years.

While showcasing extensive planted and natural landscaped areas with river views, the Riverbank Parklands will also offer public carparking spaces and an amenities block.

Local resident Jess Hales has lived in Riverbank since 2014 and is now building her second home in the estate near the Riverbank Parkland.

“With a young family, we will be able to continue to enjoy the outdoors, meeting other families and being active,” Mrs Hales said.

“One of the highlights of living in Riverbank is the connected community. The Parkland will be another avenue to meet new families and faces and will amplify the relaxed atmosphere Riverbank is known for.”

Peet Limited Managing Director and CEO Brendan Gore said the next phase for the Riverbank Parkland signified a broader shift in the growing community.

“Breaking ground on the signature Parkland is just one facet of a wider commitment and investment in the Caboolture area and Southeast Queensland,” said Mr Gore.

“We can see the massive growth the region is experiencing, and with that, we need to create a pipeline of amenities, like the Parklands, that connect the community to nature.

“Riverbank is a certified environmentally smart community, so it’s critical we continue to collaborate on amenities that align with the long-term vision for Riverbank Estate.

“Having that access to nature and well-designed green spaces is what draws people to the Riverbank lifestyle in the first place.”

The Riverbank Parkland has been in planning for more than three years with Peet Limited and Moreton Bay Regional Council.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Peter Flannery said liveable communities with plenty of well-designed open spaces are a major factor in why families are choosing to live in the region.

Division 3 Councillor Adam Hain said one unique facet of the Parkland was that it provided access and views of the Caboolture River residents had not seen before.

“We need as much green space as we can in this area. Moreton Bay has been in the top two growth areas in the country for a long time, and if you look at the real estate figures, Caboolture is leading within the Moreton Bay Region, any green space we can get we’ll take it,” said Cr Hain.
