The RSPCA has launched an investigation after a devastated cavoodle owner claimed her dog died from rat baits a neighbour allegedly laid around their property boundary.

The RSPCA has confirmed it is investigating claims a northside woman laid rat baits around the perimeter of her property, killing her neighbour’s dog.

The dog owner posted an alert last week claiming her one-year-old cavoodle died from internal bleeding and alleged it came after a neighbour laid Ratsak outside an Albany Creek property.

“A neighbour has laid rat baits and our dog has passed due to eating one,” Julie posted.

“Please check your yards and contact me if your dog has had Ratsak poisoning in the last two months.

“I have contacted the neighbour and told her our dog was poisoned twice in the last fortnight by her laying Ratsak all around her fence, not in secured traps.

“A man at the vet lives near the cemetery in Albany Creek and his dog was poisoned with the exact same bait type.

“Please everyone check your yards and watch for any signs of lethargy in your animals.”

An RSPCA Queensland spokeswoman confirmed it had received an animal welfare complaint about the alleged incident and was investigating.

“As this is an open investigation, we cannot confirm any further details at this stage,” she said.

“Other than those who are authorised, anyone found deliberately poisoning animals could be charged under the Animal Care and Protection Act.

“These matters can be reported to the police or RSPCA for investigation.

“It is a timely reminder for people who use poisons as pest control that they consider their duty of care, as using such poisons can pose a significant danger to other domestic animals and wildlife.

“If you believe your pet has been poisoned, take them to your vet immediately to seek treatment.”

The pet owner’s post sparked more than 300 comments on Facebook. She also claimed to have contacted police but it was not known if Council was also contacted.
