It will be the second season in a row the club has had to start minus their captain, after Nick Slyney was injured in the lead up to the 2018 season.

Dolphins announced Cullen’s season ending injury via social media on Friday.

Club Football General Manager Grant Cleal said in a statement on the club’s website, said: “Injuries are part of our game. They will play a part in every Club’s season and we are no different. We are disappointed for Cameron but there is no good that comes from feeling sorry for ourselves when injury strikes”.

Coach Adam Mogg said in a statement on the club’s website: “We have a strong roster that covers any potential loss of a player in any position. Cullo’s injury leaves a hole but the size of that hole will depend on how the remaining squad members react.”

Cullen responded by sharing a video on the club’s Facebook page, thanking the fans for their support.

“It is a very upsetting time for myself but I’m, truly grateful for all the support,” he said.

“I have received so many messages over the last few days,” he said.

Cullen, who is expecting a baby girl in the next six weeks, said he hoped to be back for the 2020 season with the Dolphins.

Redcliffe Dolphins first Intrust Super Cup clash for 2019 is against Northern Pride at Barlow Park on March 9.
