Caboolture family loses house, possessions and cat one day before moving

A devastated Caboolture family of five has lost their house, possessions and cat in a fire that engulfed their home only one day before they were due to move out.

A Moreton Bay family-of-five is picking up the pieces from a devastating fire that destroyed their home and claimed the life of their treasured cat.

Four fire crews, police and paramedics were called to the two-level brick house Argyll St, Caboolture home at 1.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, May 10) but were unable to save it.

The Godfrey family escaped with only their lives. Even their cat Oreo, who was trapped inside, was lost in the blaze.

Mum Chloe said the fire ripped through their home so quickly and gutted it so badly none of their belongings were salvageable.

“Our beloved cat (Oreo) was trapped in side during and the firefighters did everything they could for him, but it was to late,” Ms Godfrey said.

“We were due to move today and have the truck arrive today, so we are just so devastated that this happened the day before.

“Everything that was ready to be moved, including all our children‘s memories from growing up are lost.

“Oreo and these memories are what is hurting us the most, the rest can be replaced but we can’t get these things back.

A GoFundMe has been set up by family friend Shannyn Carberry to raise funds to help the family get back on their feet.

“My friend Chloe and her family lost everything in a house fire and I was hoping to raise as much as I can to help them out,” Ms Carberry wrote on the Gofundme page.

“If you don‘t have spare money any kids toys, clothes any household items you can donate will be so helpful please message me.”

Fire investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
