Truck rollover north of Coffs Harbour

Police have charged a 24 year-old South Brisbane man, after a police pursuit of an allegedly stolen VW Golf on August 30 ended when the driver was blocked by a truck rollover on the Bruce Highway.

According to police, the pursuit began at Teneriffe before the driver was forced to navigate through the northbound traffic near the scene of the truck rollover.

Police in an unmarked car on the Bruce Highway near Elimbah saw the allegedly stolen car.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the driver drove out of the line of traffic and along the highway’s shoulder to get away from police.

The spokeswoman said police realised the car was not going anywhere in a hurry due to congestion from the crash ahead.

The 24 year-old drove back into the line of traffic and got stuck between a truck and a van in an attempt to elude police.

Police had to have the van move forward to get the VW driver out of the car for an arrest.

The truck rollover occurred at 1.05pm, when it rolled into a ditch between the Pumicestone Road and Steve Irwin Way exits, bringing the highway to a standstill.

The rollover is under investigation and a 58 year-old Kallangur man was transported to Caboolture Hospital with minor injuries.

Police closed one lane of the highway while authorities work to remove the wreckage.

At 6pm there was heavy northbound traffic back to Burpengary. North of the crash site was also slow, with heavy northbound traffic stretching to Johnston Rd.

There was major congestion northbound on the Bruce Highway between the Pumicestone Road and Steve Irwin Way exits on August 30.

He will appear in the Caboolture Magistrate Court on October 13.
