Application lodged to build two eight storey unit blocks along Redcliffe foreshore

A vacant block of land opposite a popular beach north of Brisbane could soon be transformed into two residential unit towers but it is not the first time the owner has lodged an application for this spot.

A vacant block of land opposite a popular north side beach could soon be transformed into two residential unit towers but it is not the first time the owner has lodged an application for this spot.

The block at 59-67 Marine Pde Redcliffe is opposite Suttons Beach, with frontage also on Sutton St.

It is proposed to feature two towers, each eight storeys tall and a total of 122 three-bedroom units.

Horan Developments lodged the application on behalf of owner Jonathan Selim from Sutton (Qld) Pty Ltd in December last year.

Mr Selim had previously lodged an application with Moreton Bay Regional Council, through a different developer, in 2016 for a similar development — featuring 136 units in an eight storey building.

Residents in surrounding homes and apartments were not fans of the original proposals, forming an action group and lodging more than 50 objections with the Moreton Bay Regional Council.

Residents raised concerns about increased traffic, shadowing, privacy, noise and negative affects on property values.

Despite the objections council approved the development in December 2016.

The new proposal is for two towers — one with 60 units, the other with 62.

It will also feature large balconies, private courtyards, a communal open space and carparking.

The application states the building will not exceed the council’s planning scheme height restriction of 27m.
