A 61-year-old man has appeared in court after police found a stash of dangerous weapons, including a shotgun and nunchucks, in his Moreton Bay region home.

Albany Creek resident Konstadinos Tragoudistakis pleaded guilty in Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on June 6 to possessing a restricted item, a category A weapon, and explosives.

Tragoudistakis’ home was searched by police on May 13 where they found, a shotgun, nunchucks and ammunition in the closet of his bedroom, a court has heard.

The court heard Tragoudistakis told police he did not have a licence to possess the weapons but was not aware he needed one.

“He made admissions to not having a licence, he thought he only required a licence to use the shotgun,” police prosecutor, Sergeant Shannon Fox, said.

According to Tragoudistakis’s lawyer, Brendan Whelan, the weapons were kept due to sentimental value.

“His wife passed away in 2008 and gifted the firearm as a passing gift,” Mr Whelan said.

“They had a small gym under the house and his wife bought him nunchucks as a gift.”

Magistrate Annette Hennessy said the items found had been there for a significant amount of time.

“They were items that you were given long ago, and you kept in a cupboard,” she said.

No convictions were recorded but Tragoudistakis received a good behaviour bond of four months and the weapons were forfeited.
