Second developer hopes to grow his approved unit block by four storeys

A month after a southeast Queensland council went against its planning scheme and approved a 45m tall unit complex, despite community objections, a second developer is asking to do the same thing in the same street.

A DEVELOPER is seeking permission to increase the height of a unit complex at Woody Point from 11 to 15 stories following council approving a similar development just last month.

The site at 1 Lilla St, Woody Point, was originally approved to be 31.8m tall with 11 units – the applicant Sam Hanna & Co Pty Ltd, is now seeking permission to increase the height to 44m, allowing for 15 units.

The applicant’s report, lodged with Moreton Bay Regional Council on January 22, directly refers to the council’s decision to allow Traders in Purple to build a 45m tall unit tower at 2 & 8 Gayundah Esplanade – directly opposite the site at 1 Lilla St.

That application was also a change from the originally approved plans.

Council approved the application in December last year, despite receiving more than 100 objections.

Residents objected to the height, extra traffic and loss of lifestyle and amenity.

“The development proposal for the site to the north exceeded the overall high limitation of 21m which triggered impact assessment and was required to be publicly notified,” the application states.

“Notwithstanding the number of submissions received in relation to the proposal, the development was approved.

“The development application and its overall height of 47m is considered to meet the community expectation for development within the locality.”

The development is proposed to included 38 carparks.

The Woody Point Action Group has since lodged an application with the Planning and Environment Court regarding the development at 2 & 8 Gayundah Esplanade.
