A developer and action group, north of Brisbane, are ramping up their efforts to collect the most support for their case as the public consultation process draws to a close.

Residents have until September 26 to lodge their submissions either for or against the proposed Newport Marina Development with Moreton Bay Regional Council.

Developer Kindred Group have lodged an application to build two ten storey buildings — one a hotel and one an apartment complex, at the marina, north of Brisbane.

There are also plans to include an aquarium, green space, marine education precinct and food outlets at the site.

Kindred Group CEO Josh Kindred has held many consultation sessions with community members.

The developer will be set up at its site office at 158 Griffith Rd all weekend for those who support the development to go and sign a submission form.

Mr Kindred said he had been “blown away” and “pleasantly surprised” by the number of supportive letters coming in from community members.

“This is the most unique space on the Peninsula and people can see that this is the best use of the site. It is going to give back social and economic benefits and enhance lifestyles for the whole community,” Mr Kindred said.

“The short stay accommodation is also essential in our community to provide local jobs and boost local businesses and there are people in Newport and surrounds calling out for a new residential offering allowing them to downsize with their boat at their door.”

A group of Newport residents against the development will also be out this weekend collecting signatures and submission forms.

The president of the Newport Action Group Kenlie Williams said there were 500 members in their group.

“The people of Newport don’t want this,” Ms Williams said.

“Our biggest concerns are that it is not in keeping with the neighbourhood and the zoning change.”

She said some were also concerned about how the noise from the hotel would be managed and the extra traffic.

The group will be set up at Endeavour Esplanade, Newport, on Saturday to take letters of opposition.
