RESIDENTS can now have their say on the proposed development plans for Newport Marina.

The public consultation period opened on September 5 and will close on September 26.

Kindred Group have lodged a Material Change of Use application with Moreton Bay Regional Council.

The group hopes to build two 10-storey buildings at the marina.

One will be a residential tower with 93 apartments, the other a hotel with 144 rooms.

It is also expected to include a bar, shops, food and drink outlet, green space and function room.

Kindred Group CEO Josh Kindred said, if approved, it would also include a $1 million, 20m long, 2m wide and 2m high, public aquarium.

“We will be working with local marine ecological experts and tertiary researchers to fit out the aquarium, which will bring the beauty and wonders of the big blue to the site of the Newport Marina development,” Mr Kindred said.

“The aquarium is set to be tailored to replicate the environment of the Moreton Bay Region, using corals, grasses, fish species and other marine animals that call our local waters home.”

A Moreton Bay Regional Council spokesman said the council was expected to vote on the application, once the submission process was complete and the information compiled into a report.
