The court heard the notebook was found during a police search on Kleinschmidt’s home which uncovered a great deal of additional incriminating evidence.

Scales, a vaping pen, nine tablets of MDMA and $1915 in cash were found inside a safe, Kleinschmidt’s phone showed several Snapchat stories in which the young man offered to sell sticks of cannabis and a 50cm tall cannabis plant and nine seedlings were growing inside a greenhouse.

Kleinschmidt told police he obtained the cash through selling drugs and had earned an additional $1000 more from their sale, though that money was “no longer there”.

The court heard Kleinschmidt resorted to selling drugs because he found it difficult to secure employment during the pandemic and was struggling with money.

Kleinschmidt has since found employment as a trade assistant, installing solar panels.

Magistrate Trevor Morgan elected not to record a conviction due to Kleinschmidt’s young age and lack of any criminal history, however he did issue Kleinschmidt a $2500 fine.
