A Logan man in the grip of a spiralling alcohol addiction called triple-0 and Lifeline, telling them he was armed with a shotgun and was going to kill himself and his estranged partner.

Yarrabilba man Michael Robert Dillon, 39, pleaded guilty to two counts of using a carriage service to make a threat to kill.

Beenleigh Magistrates Court heard the two threats occurred on consecutive days on April 4 – 5 this year.

A “severely intoxicated” Dillon called the two numbers, warning he was armed with a shotgun at Darlington Parklands, Yarrabilba, and ready to kill.

Police were dispatched to the parklands but Dillon was not there.

However, they discovered him the following day, April 6, walking out from his estranged partner’s residence, at which point he was arrested.

He has remained in custody ever since.

Defence lawyer Joe Wicking told the court was so drunk he had “no independent recollection” of making the threats.

He noted his client had limited criminal history but had struggled with alcohol since the age of 12.

Prior to Yarrabilba, Dillon lived in Beenleigh for about six months and before that owned a takeaway shop in Coffs Harbour which was moderately successful.

Mr Wicking told the court his client spiralled back into alcohol abuse when he moved to Queensland with his then-partner and they separated shortly afterwards.

“He wants to get back to the productive person he was in Coffs Harbour,” Mr Wicking said.

Dillon was released on a $1000 good behaviour bond having served 169 days in custody.

The bond will be in place for a period of two years and is conditional on him undertaking probation.

Convictions were recorded.
