A tradie from Brisbane’s southside told a court he was busted behind the wheel more than three times the legal limit because neither his parents nor his girlfriend liked him drinking at home.

A Logan woman who saw a suspicious ute parked in her street called police after she discovered the inside cab covered in “tissues, blood and vomit” and a man asleep in the seat, leading to a high-range drink-driving charge, a court has heard.

That man was Parkinson sole trader Mathew Frank Andric, 31, who pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Beenleigh Magistrates Court to being in charge of a vehicle while under the influence of liquor.

Andric was discovered about 11.45pm on October 3 this year at Hawthorn St, Heritage Park.

Police prosecutor Sgt Donna Cole told the court police were dispatched after the local woman’s grisly find in Andric’s black Nissan Navara, the inside of which was plastered with used tissues, blood and spew.

Investigating police saw Andric’s keys in the ignition and a bottle of wine in the driver’s side door.

Andric initially produced a NSW driver’s licence before producing his Queensland licence.

Sgt Cole told the court Andric informed police he had a “job” in the area the following morning, but couldn’t stay with his girlfriend or at his parents as they both “didn’t like him drinking”.

His blood alcohol content was recorded as 0.151 per cent, just over the high-range threshold.

Andric told the court he didn’t realise he’d committed a crime by virtue of his keys being in the ignition, and that he’d only intended to “watch a movie” and sleep in his car before his job the next day.

He was fined $850 and disqualified from driving for six months.
