Hoon busted in Logan

A serial hoon has landed in court facing a whopping 65 charges.

Zane Timothy James Dixon, 23, of Nundah in Brisbane, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court to 65 charges on Monday, including six counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and 12 counts of driving disqualified.

The court heard Polair observed a group of more than 100 people and vehicles at a hoon meet on Link Drive at Yatala, south of Brisbane, on August 21 last year.

It is alleged Dixon was in attendance and evaded police when they attempted to stop him.

Phone footage also captured Dixon driving dangerously and doing burnouts and doughnuts in his yellow Ford sedan along Magnesium Drive, Crestmead on August 24.

Police also allege he was doing burnouts along Permarig Place, Rocklea, at 10.36pm on August 28, before he returned to tear down the street again at 10.48pm that same night with a passenger sitting on the rear right window who jumped out.

The court heard Dixon was also charged with stealing about $1800 worth of wheels and tyres.

He was eventually apprehended after cops spotted his yellow Ford sedan on Grand Plaza Drive at Browns Plains, Logan, on August 30 last year.

Police approached him, and Dixon ran from the scene, but he was later caught after a short foot pursuit, and his car was impounded.

Dixon’s lawyer said his client had attended Browns Plains High School and went on to complete an apprenticeship in plastering and sealing.

During sentencing, Magistrate Terry Duroux noted he had a 17-page traffic history and had been in custody since September 12 last year.

“You and many other young people, not only in Beenleigh, seem to think it’s okay for clowns like you to get together and put on these so-called shows for these other clowns who go to watch these performances,” he said.

“It is so easy to lose control, and on a couple of occasions, if I read the matter correctly, you actually did lose control.”

“So the potential for disaster is there.”

He was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment with an immediate parole release date, and the 183 days he spent in pre-sentence custody was declared time served under the sentence.

He was also disqualified from driving for four years.
