A Logan man allegedly tied to major organised crime investigation Operation Dagobah has been committed to the District Court after a disability support business was raided by police.

Zakarie Aden Mohamed, 24, faced Beenleigh Magistrates Court on February 23 for a committal hand up where the matter was sent to the district court.

The Sunnybank Hills man was charged with possession of dangerous drugs exceeding schedule three, contravening an order about information stored electronically, three counts of possessing dangerous drugs and two breaches of bail.

On November 3, 2022 police raided Diverse Disability Services, at Underwood, which they were investigating for alleged fraud.

Police allege 14 vials of opiate Suboxone were found, with each vial containing approximately 80ml of the drug.

In court Mr Mohamed’s defence barrister Matthew Hynes questioned Detective Senior Constables Ben Horne and Michael Young during cross examination.

“This is respectfully a very weak case, you believed he was tied to an investigation called Operation Dagobah, which was looking into shootings in Logan,” he said.

“There was no DNA evidence linking my client to the scene, there was only one link with Mr Mohamed allegedly named as a director of a company Diverse Disability Services, which you believed was a front.

“You know he wasn’t a director and you then decided to charge my client’s brother on July 31 to put pressure on my client. Do you know what happens if you did that?”

Senior Constable Young flatly denied that was the reason for charging Mr Mohamed’s brother and said when they raided the building on November 3 several discoveries were made.

“As a crime investigator it is common for people to put a business or car in another person’s name,” Senior Constable Young said.

“We had surveillance footage he was still connected as a director and in the search we found Suboxone and small water balloons.

“We were initially there to investigate a fraud, we found lots of computers in the office building we believed was being used as a front.”

Mr Mohamed was initially granted bail on October 20, 2023.

Magistrate Eoin Mac Giolla Ri committed the matter to the district court at a date to be advised and enlarged Mr Mohamed’s bail.
