A morning Maccas’ run between a group of young Logan men ended in tragedy when the driver allegedly crashed head-on with another car, causing lifelong injuries.

On January 23, Travis John Beasley and a group of friends travelled to McDonald’s at 8.30am for a hungover breakfast.

Mr Beasley, 20, was allegedly driving a car with defective brake pads and crashed head-on with another driver on Tamborine Road, Waterford.

Police prosecution state the defective brake pads were not the cause of the crash.

Police will allege Mr Beasley was driving 80 km/h, lost control of the car and swerved then drifted into another driver John Elford.

He allegedly hit Mr Elford head on, resulting in him being rushed to hospital.

The alleged victim had permanent fractures to his spine as a result of the crash.

Mt Warren park man Mr Beasley faced Beenleigh Magistrates Court on February 22 charged with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm.

Defence lawyer Zane Chapman from Howden Saggers Lawyers asked for the matter to be adjourned to March 31.

“I’ve taken a legal aid application from my client, it’s a bit of a sad one, this matter but it will eventually proceed,” he said.

Magistrate Ron Kilner enlarged Mr Beasley’s bail and adjourned the matter to March 31.
