The young family of a 25-year-old Ormeau man are anxiously waiting for him to undergo lifesaving surgery after a horrific motorbike crash left him critically injured on the weekend.
Chrae Tawhai was taken to Princess Alexander Hospital in critical condition after a motorbike crash at a bike track near Beaudesert on Sunday.
His mother Naomi Pinzone said Chrae had sustained serious injures to the left side of his body during the crash, from his collar bone to his ribs.
She said her son had been riding motorbikes since he was young growing up in Alice Springs.
“He sustained a number of fractures and damage to his lung,” she said.
“He’s in a sedated coma at the moment.
“He’s on a ventilator. He’s not able to breathe properly by himself at this stage because of the injuries.
“The doctors made the call (Friday) morning to give him surgery, and hopefully, then that will stop the internal bleeding, and he can progress where they want him to from there.”
Mrs Pinzone said after the surgery Chrae’s road to recovery would still be a long and difficult journey ahead.
“Probably for the next 8-12 weeks it’s going to be a long recovery and healing and just getting mobile again,” she said.
She said Chrae and his partner Gracie had a five-month old daughter together.
He is also the oldest brother to two sisters and one brother.
“We don’t know what the future looks like for this little family but they have recently become homeowners and a small baby and now this,” the page said.
“Any burdens that they can be relieved of at this time would be a blessing right now as Gracie uses all her energy on her baby and Chrae.”
