Woodridge father jailed for disgusting sexual abuse of son, 11 counts of indecent treatment

A father’s perverted acts towards his own son have been revealed before a court, with the 34-year-old Logan man confessing to ruining his child’s life.

A Woodridge father has received a lengthy jail term for the sexual abuse of his own son which he told a Logan court was “inhuman”.

The 34-year-old defendant, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court to 11 counts of indecent treatment of a child.

The court heard that between June 2019 and May 2020, the defendant abused his 8-year-old son while he was under his care, away from his mother.

On all eleven occasions, the defendant would show the child a pornographic video before the offending.

The defendant represented himself in court and said he was remorseful for his actions.

“I want to truly apologise to the family but more so to the victim, he didn’t deserve that at all,” he said.

“I’ve ruined his life.”

Judge Craig Chowdhury asked the defendant if he had any submissions in regards to his sentencing and the father said he accepted what he did was wrong and was worthy of punishment.

“What I’ve done is inhuman and it is important justice is served.

“He (the victim) didn’t have a chance at asking me to stop or telling me off.”

Judge Chowdhury said the responsibility of being a father made the offending more severe.

“This is your own son and do this to him is just appalling,” he said.

“You have to go to jail for this.”

He was sentenced to three and a half years in prison and will be eligible for parole on October 19, 2023.
