A 25-year-old mother-of-two who beat her neighbour bloody by striking her up to 35 times will have months of prison hanging over head after she was granted immediate parole.

Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday (June 6) heard Waterford West mum Shaira May Lourdes Lacquiere beat her neighbour so severely the woman thought she was going to die.

Lacquiere pleaded guilty to single counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, contravention of a probation order and breach of bail.

According to police, the then 24-year-old defendant on June 20, 2021 became enraged when her neighbour allegedly swore at her daughter.

Lacquiere told the woman she would “f****n kill” her if she ever spoke to her daughter like that again.

She then grabbed her by her hair and threw her onto the ground so that she struck her head.

While the victim screamed on the ground Lacquiere rained down “10-20” strikes to her back and front before turning her over and punching her up to 15 times, the court was told.

A police prosecutor said the victim thought she was going to die, experienced pain and started to black out.

Her frantic screams eventually drew her mother from their home, which ceased the assault.

Responding police observed the victim bleeding from a split lip, noted large swelling on her eye and bruising on a foot.

Lacquiere admitted to police that she struck her neighbour and claimed she hit her eight times while the victim allegedly fought back.

The defendant suffered no injuries.

Lacquiere’s offending was aggravated when she breached her bail on October 3 by treating the woman.

The court heard she said: “I’ll f**k you up again”, when the victim had an alleged verbal altercation with her father.

It came on the back of criminal history that included sentences for stealing, possession of drug utensils and dangerous drugs, possession of a knife in public and breach of bail since 2019, the court was told.

A probation report further described her as unsuitable for community orders after she failed drug tests and “continued to come to the attention of police for anti-social behaviour”.

An initially unrepresented Lacquiere earned the court’s ire when she said she was in fact the victim and had struck the woman because she was “rude”.

The defendant burst into tears when magistrate Pamela Dowse cut short her victim blaming.

“You are at serious risk of imprisonment for your conduct,” Ms Dowse said.

“You are in the wrong … you are not the victim.”

After a short adjournment defence solicitor Tamara Lawton said her client apologised to the court, no longer blamed the victim and was “here to take responsibility for the consequences”.

Lacquiere was, according to the defence, “incredibly sorry for what happened”.

Ms Lawton said the “regretted” assault occurred after a “build-up of frustrations” with the neighbour who lived in close proximity.

The court heard Lacquiere had since ceased her drug use and had fallen pregnant with her third child.

“Things are looking very positive for her,” Ms Lawton said.

Multiple references from other neighbours on Lacquiere’s street were tendered to the court speaking of their good relations.

In sentencing, Ms Dowse denounced the defendant for her “barbaric”, “putrid” violence that “does not solve anything”.

Lacquiere was sentenced to three months’ jail with immediate parole granted.

She was further fined $500 and a conviction was recorded.
