The joyful reunion of a brother and sister ended in a fatal tragedy hours after a Chinchilla teen arrived in Brisbane, where she had moved to be with her family.

Trinity Walsh, 16, had been at her brother Levi’s Kingston home for less than three hours when the pair decided to take a ride on a dirt bike, which ended in his death and put her in a critical condition in hospital.

It was the first time the pair had seen each other in months after Trinity decided to move from the country town Chinchilla to live with her mother, brothers and family in Kingston.

The pair, who have six other siblings, had organised a day of catching up and decided to take the dirt bike for a ride from one brother’s house to another brother’s house in a nearby street.

Levi, 17, drove the bike and Trinity, 16, got on the back.

But their plan turned to tragedy when the bike swerved to miss a car, clipped the kerb throwing Levi into a pole.

Ambulance officers at the scene said Levi called for his mum while he was lying on the side of the road with a severed artery in his leg.

Dad James Walsh said the ride on Monday was “just innocent fun”.

“Levi was on the front and Trinity on the back,” he said.

“Trinity had wanted to move from Chinchilla to be closer to her big brothers who she had not really spent a lot of time with.

“She is still in a critical condition and was in surgery from 9am to 5pm yesterday.

“She is not out of the woods yet and has ongoing issues now.”

“It was just some innocent fun and is sad considering the number of times a person rides a dirt bike without a problem,” a family friend said.

“They were just going around the corner to a relative’s house.”

Paramedics worked on him for an hour and revived him five times before he was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital where he battled for hours before dying surrounded by his parents, siblings and girlfriend.

Trinity, suffered broken bones, internal ruptures and 16 staples to her head, was by his side when he died.

Nursing staff wheeled her bed into the ICU ward where she was able to join the family in Levi’s final moments.

The grim news continued for the family after Levi’s death with Trinity undergoing major surgery before being admitted to the high dependency unit where her mother Trish sat by her bedside.

Police said a helmet the teen was wearing saved her life.

Funeral arrangements were underway with plans to move Levi to Toowoomba after a coroner’s report.

Mr Walsh and his son James, set up a GoFundMe page to help the family cope with paying for the funeral and for medical costs for Trinity.

“My little brother took the brute impact of the power poll where he had internal bleeding, a ruptured pelvis and an artery in his leg was severed,” brother James said.

“His last words he tried to say is that he wants mum while he was lying on the sidewalk.

“We have current financial issues and we can’t afford to lay my brother to rest. Every dollar means the world to us. He left behind eight siblings and both his parents and grandparents and we would all like to be able to lay him beside my dad’s sister in Toowoomba.”

Family and friends planned to gather on Thursday at the scene of the tragedy.

Within hours, neighbour’s and friends had left soft toys and flowers at the pole in Kingston as a memorial for the likeable and quiet boy.

Logan Central resident Ed Hornery said the suburb was in shock.

Mr Hornery’s children went to Woodridge North State School with Levi, before the family moved to Chinchilla a decade ago.

His daughters left flowers at the pole and remembered their friend as a footy-loving kid who got on with everyone.

“They hadn’t seen him for a long time but were still affected enough to take some flowers to where he died,” Mr Hornery said.

“They had lived in Kingston for a long time before moving to Chinchilla and have only recently returned here.

“They are a big family which is why everyone knows them.”
