Police began tracking the vehicle and witnessed it travelling through a roundabout at speed, it’s wheels travelling over the cement gutter and pushing debris onto the road, leading to the charge of driving without due care and attention.

When he was arrested, the court heard, Dutton smelt of liquor and told police he had consumed “four or five” schooner-sized glasses of bourbon and coke.

He returned a blood alcohol reading just north of the high-range threshold of 0.15 per cent.

Today, the court heard that Dutton had been drinking with his partner in the home they shared when an argument broke out between the pair.

Defence lawyer Matthew Buchanan said his client made the “foolish” decision to leave the home to stay at a friend’s house at Marsden.

He said his client, who has never been before a court, found the experience “very upsetting”.

Convictions were recorded.
