A 21-year-old Logan woman has been jailed for taking part in a wild crime spree with her thug boyfriend which saw cars stolen, people bashed and a person run over.
Tiarney Leigh Johnston pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court on Friday to a raft of offences, including assault occasioning bodily harm, burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle to commit an indictable offence, and multiple fuel drive-offs.
The court heard her offences, committed largely in concert with Logan Central boyfriend Jaimie Anthony Loizou, aged 24 or 25, occurred between June 21 and August 16 last year, with that latter day representing the outrageous crime spree which got them both sent to the slammer.
Travelling in a vehicle stolen from Sunnybank, Johnston and Loizou drove to an address at Peregian Cl, Manly West, where Loizou stole a black Toyota HiLux and ran over its 45-year-old owner, with Johnston in the passenger seat.
The pair then travelled to an address at Holmview, where they lay siege to a residence containing two people known to them.
One of the victims “tried to prevent” Loizou and Johnston from entering, but Loizou beat down the door and then bashed a male occupant, with Johnston a party to that offending.
A number of fuel drive-offs were also committed that day.
Johnston was arrested on August 22 last year and has remained behind bars as she was on parole at the time of the offending.
Loizou was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment on May 13 in the Brisbane District Court, with the head sentence attaching to the dangerous driving charge where Loizou ran over the owner of a stolen vehicle.
The court heard both Loizou and Johnston had struggled with methamphetamine addiction.
Judge Richard Jones told the court he had decided to “take a chance” on Johnston, concluding she had spent enough time in custody and enrolled in enough courses to decide a life incarcerated was not the oath she wished to travel down.
He sentenced her to two years’ imprisonment, suspended after time served, and three years’ probation.
She would live with Loizou’s parents in Gympie upon her release, the court heard, to be joined by Loizou after his parole release on August 21.
