Australia's Court System

A Logan man has been charged following a brutal punch to a club manager’s face on what was supposed to be a fun night out.

Yarrabilba pick packer (warehouse worker) Tevita Keliki Sione Sin Kei, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Thursday (July 7) to one count of common assault.

The court heard the 25-year-old was out partying at Retro’s nightclub in Fortitude Valley with friends on October 23 last year when he punched the manager of the club in the face.

“(He) Was seen striking the victim in his face with his left hand,” police prosecutor, Tim Wise, said.

“The victim stated he felt immediate pain to his face.”

Mr Kei, who was self-represented, did not comment about the incident.

Magistrate Terry Duroux said Mr Kei’s fiance, who was in the back of the court, appeared very upset.

“Perhaps you should have been with your family at home rather than out at the clubs,” Mr Duroux said.

Mr Kei was fined $800.

No convictions were recorded.
