A Logan father has been jailed after driving with a disqualified licence multiple times and not having a car seat for his young son.

Loganholme‘s, Adam Igwabi, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday (July 5) to two counts of disqualified driving and one count of failing to ensure a child aged between four and seven was in a car restraint.

The court heard the 27-year-old was driving back from a work site to a rubbish tip on Drews Rd, Loganholme last year to buy food for his family when he was stopped.

He tried to swap seats to make it look as if his wife was driving.

“He stated he had to drive to work to provide for his family,” police prosecutor Kellie Cullen said.

“He said his partner was too heavily pregnant to drive him.”

The court heard police also discovered one of their children, aged four, was not in a booster or secure seat.

The court heard Igwabi was again caught swapping seats with his wife after he was caught driving on a disqualified licence in February this year.

“His partner was pregnant at the time, she was experiencing some morning sickness and stopped the car to go to a nearby rest room,” his lawyer, Emma Kearney, said.

“My client moved the vehicle to a safer place.”

Magistrate Mark Howden acknowledged Igwabi’s past four disqualified driving charges.

“He’s had two warnings in the past and a third warning. It hasn’t deterred him, it’s contemptuous of court orders,” Mr Howden said.

“He was driving disqualified. He could have hurt somebody.”

Igwabi was convicted and received six months‘ jail for each disqualified driving offence, which was suspended after one month but operational for 18 months.

He was disqualified from driving for two years, concurrently, on each charge.

Igwabi was convicted but not further punished for failing to properly restrain a child.
