A Logan truck driver allegedly punched a driver more than a dozen times in a road rage attack, a court has been told.

Talele Fogavini, 26, was granted bail by Beenleigh Magistrates Court on March 1 for one count of grievous bodily harm and one count of common assault.

The court heard the New Zealand-born man was the passenger in a truck on January 23 this year in Logan Central.

His truck was cut off by another driver and the other driver began to ‘brake check’ him, where he would drive in front and deliberately stop.

The court heard both vehicles pulled over and Mr Fogavini saw a man approaching his truck.

An altercation allegedly occurred with Mr Fogavini accused of throwing multiple punches.

The incident was captured on CCTV footage.

The alleged common assault occurred on November 26 in Logan Central.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Donna Kay said grievous bodily harm was the most serious charge and it was a strong case.

“Footage shows the complainant was simply pushed up against a motor vehicle and punched,” she said.

She argued Mr Fogavini was a potential flight risk due to his roots in New Zealand.

Defence barrister Chris Minnery disputed this, stating his client was at no risk of fleeing and was an Australian citizen.

He had been in custody for 10 days

Magistrate Pamela Dowse said she was concerned over the defendant’s “violent behaviour”.

“He is very violent and the evidence shows him throwing repeated punches,” Magistrate Dowse said.

Mr Fogavini was granted bail and will be required to report twice a week to the parole office.

Mr Fogavini must also not contact any complainants or witnesses in the matter and seek anger management counselling.

The matter was adjourned to April 19 in Beenleigh Magistrates Court.
