A popular florist south of Brisbane with 30-year ties to the industry, has shut up shop due to the cost-of-living crunch.

Southside Flower Market and its delivery service Flower Hub in Slacks Creek will sell its final blooms on March 15.

Owner and co-founder Nicki Christensen said it was a tough decision to make but the financial pressures of running a small business were just too demanding.

“The costs and regulatory pressures of operating a small business in Australia today has actually become so great that it is actually unworkable,” he said.

“As the roller door comes down for the final time on March 15 we thank all of our team members, customers and suppliers for their trust and patronage over the 30 years.”

The businesses opened in 2021 by husband and wife team Nicki and Milly Christensen.

Nicki’s family ran florist businesses in Denmark before immigrating to Brisbane in the 1980s.

“It will be mixture of relief, excitement, sadness and some trepidation that see’s our family exit the flower industry in Australia to pursue new life goals and dreams.

“We developed a loyal fan base and as is evidenced by the customer comments we’ve received since announcing the closure, it was valued and will be missed.”

Members of the community took to social media to show their support and sadness in hearing the news.

“Your beautiful flowers have been there for me during holidays, birthdays, saying my last goodbyes to my dad and others. You will be a huge loss to our Logan community,” said one member.

“Thank you for all of your relentless service over the years, the industry isn’t going to be the same without you.

“It’s so sad to see you guys go but all the best in your future possibilities and opportunities.

“It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you all. Your beautiful family and staff will be dearly missed not to mention my favourite place to get flowers,” they said on Facebook.
