A young Logan woman with a history of stealing cars has been jailed for a wild joy ride involving a fake plastic gun and a Mitsubishi Lancer.

Justice Ivy Uppritchard, 21, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on February 9, 2023 to one count of unlawfully entering a vehicle and one count of unlawful use of a vehicle.

The court heard that on November 2, 2019, the Slacks Creek resident went to a 30-year-old male friend’s house with three other people.

The group told the occupant they needed a place to stay as they had been in a police chase and then climbed through a hole in the house despite being told to leave.

The court heard Uppritchard, who was 19-years-old at the time, reached for the victim’s car keys and one of the group revealed a fake gun then yelled at the victim that they were going to be shot.

A member of the group pushed the victim down and tried to wrestle the keys from him while swearing and threatening him.

Uppritchard eventually got the car keys and drove away with the group before abandoning the Mitsubishi Lancer in Kingston.

She was tracked down and arrested in New South Wales, where police found a fake plastic gun in the car and Uppritchard was extradited back to Queensland.

The court heard Uppritchard had been addicted to methamphetamine since she was 14 and had a concerning and growing criminal history.

Judge Jodie Wooldridge KC said the offending was concerning but the defendant was still young and had a chance to turn her life around.

“This would have been a confronting and frightening experience,” she said.

“I accept that you are young and have prospects of rehabilitation.”

Uppritchard was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years.

She will remain remanded in custody until she faces unrelated charges in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on February 23.
