A Logan software engineer’s shocking, predatory act in a public park has been revealed in court.

Shannon Ian Ikking, 54, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on June 19 to one count of public nuisance.

The court heard that on August 28, 2023 the Holmview man was walking along a dog park in Loganholme about 2pm.

A woman was walking in front of Mr Ikking while on the phone to a friend and noticed Ikking was following her.

The court heard the woman then looked behind her and saw Mr Ikking, then about 20m away, with his trousers down and masturbating.

The woman told her friend on the phone about the disturbing sight, who advised her to call the police.

When police arrived they identified Mr Ikking and arrested him, the court heard.

A police prosecutor said Mr Ikking’s behaviour was unacceptable.

“The offending was concerning and there was a level of premeditation to it,” he said.

“The victim has the right to walk around freely in public without being subjected to this.”

The court heard Mr Ikking worked as a software engineer for 30 years and attended that park regularly for exercise.

Magistrate Ron Kilner said he would not record a conviction.

But if Mr Ikking came before the court again a conviction would be recorded.

“I accept this is a one-off situation,” he said.

“I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt today and won’t record a conviction.”

Mr Ikking was fined $250 and placed on a 12-month, $500 good behaviour recognisance order.

If he offended within 12 months he would have to pay the $500.

No conviction was recorded.
