A 31-year-old woman remanded to police custody for the first time for six days has been wished well by a magistrate but warned actual jail beckons should she court more trouble.
An emotional Satasha Leminka Loweke said, “Thank you, Your Honour”, as she was led from the dock to be released at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Loweke pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs and possessing drug utensils, among other charges.
The court heard the jobseeker on May 13 was found in possession of meth, a glass pipe for smoking the drug and a bong.
It followed an earlier police bust on April 28 when she was found with a nominal amount of cannabis, according to police.
Her offending was aggravated for occurring only days into a probation order, the court was told.
Police prosecutor Tim Wise said Loweke had a two-page criminal history and had previously also benefited from a suspended jail sentence for other offending.
Defence solicitor Raquel Brehmer said her client had been the victim of domestic violence at the time of her offending, which had dramatically increased after a new partner introduced her to drugs.
The court heard Loweke had never been remanded and had been heavily affected by the experience.
Ms Brehmer said the defendant was actively looking for work and was studying a diploma in marketing.
Magistrate Pamela Dowse sentenced Loweke to 11 months’ probation with no conviction recorded.
“Good luck,” Ms Dowse said.
“Just keep out of trouble or you will end up in jail.”
