A Logan man has faced court after threatening to kill his ex-partner while holding a knife to her throat, a court has heard.

Mt Warren Park resident, Ryan Christian John Perkins, pleaded guilty in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court yesterday (June 22) to two counts of common assault while armed so as to cause fear, and possession of dangerous drugs and utensils.

The court heard the 29-year-old violently threatened his ex-partner with a knife and assaulted her while she was driving, punched her and poured a drink over her.

The two assaults happened between April 17 and April 25 last year.

“He threatened to kill the aggrieved, threatening her with a knife,” police prosecutor Sergeant Donna Kay said.

“The concerning part is that the defendant has a history of these offences.”

Perkins’ lawyer, Ali Rana, said his client “lost control’’.

“He’s lost control, but he’s not beyond rehabilitation,” Mr Rana said.

“He is remorseful.”

Mr Rana said Perkins had already served 201 days in custody for previous offences.

“He has served too much time,” he said.

Magistrate Ronald Kilner said the assault charges were very serious.

“The most serious one was when she’s driving the car — pouring a drink over her and punching her while she’s driving is an inherently dangerous exercise,” Mr Kilner said.

“(That is) interfering with her while she was driving the motor vehicle.”

Perkins was convicted and given six months’ parole, after time already served was taken into account, with special conditions to complete anger management courses.

His parole eligibility date was set at June 21.
