The inaugural Buy from the Bush Queensland Festival attracted hundreds to the Scenic Rim over the weekend, with Olympic 200m sprinter and proud Beaudesert girl Riley Day as a headline speaker.

Queenslander Kerri Brennan started Buy from the Bush QLD in 2018 while her family-run cattle property on the Darling Downs was in the grips of a seven year drought.

“Buy from The Bush QLD has always been about supporting the Queensland bush battler with strength in numbers,” Ms Brennan said.

“We invited makers, growers, producers, artists, and businesses from as far away as Longreach and of course from across the Scenic Rim region.

“Summer Land Camel Farm is perfect for an event of this scale, being just 45 minutes from Brisbane and just over an hour from the Gold Coast, with plenty of parking, loads of fabulous space and of course, camels.”

Summer Land Camels is Australia’s largest commercial Camel Dairy, and is based in the Scenic Rim. The business is passionate about building a better understanding of camels and camel farming in Australia.

Summer Land Camels CEO Paul Martin said it was a privilege to host the festival.

Mayor Greg Christensen said Scenic Rim Regional Council was also proud to support this great initiative.

The festival featured guest speakers Scenic Rim MP Jon Krause and Beaudesert Olympian Riley Day.

First time Olympian sprinter Riley Day said she couldn’t believe the impact her heroics at the Tokyo Olympics have had on her local community at Beaudesert.

At the Tokyo Olympics this year, the talented sprinter ran a personal best time of 22.56 seconds in the women’s 200m semi-final, impressing fans across the nation in the process.

But it was in the young athlete’s home town where they were screaming loudest at the TV during the Tokyo games.

“It feels so good to be back home in Beaudesert and on the farm with my family,” Day said.

“My family and the community have just been so supportive and I’m so grateful.”

Day gave an inspirational tell-all speech at the event over the weekend.
